The meeting with the guide is at the entrance of the Mesola Wood ( Distric of Ferrara Province) and then it will start the cycling tour.
The Mesola Wood lies in the territory of the Common of Mesola and it’s one of the most significant evidence of the ancient forest, that enveloped on the Adriatic costs in the 1st century A.C. Nowadays the Wood extends1058 hectares, whose 100 is possible to be visited. The flora is rich in species and includes more than 400 arboreal classes, among that it’s important to underline a great presence of Holms. Also the local fauna numbers a wide quantities of species, among that there are a particular autochthon and protected group of deer, fawns and other little mammalians. Several birds live in this wood and in particularly a lot of aquatic ones, that you can admire in the south side of the park, in the Sacca di Goro.
The Mesola Wood has been natural oasis since 1977. With a simple equipment is possible to do really interesting walks trough the several paths, that stretch to the hinterland. It’s possible to do excursions on foot, on bike or by cart. The visits are on Tuesday, Friday, Saturday and on festivities from 9 o’ clock until a hour before the sunset. The itinerary is possible to be done also by not-seeing people. The entrance ticket is free.

In the afternoon it is scheduled the visit of the Mesola Castel, the last Este’s Delizia, which were summer residences and places given over to the recreation of the Dukes of Ferrara. This Castel was built by Alfonso II Este as the centre of a huge estate, that the Este Family dedicated to their preferred Hobby: the hunting. To tell the true, the fact that the building was surrounded by walls and towers -whose the only remaining is the Abate one- let us think that it was a properly fortress for a boundary area. Nowadays it has been done up and given over to the public service: the castle is the seat of the communal library and of the State archives, the Civic Gallery and the Ambient Educational Centre.
In the area of the Mesola Wood it is possible to walk through several paths, reaching for example the little Wood of S.Giustina. This little wood, also called Fasanara Wood, is the remains of the ancient forest that enveloped its surface until the see. Then is scheduled the visit of the Abate Tower, the building that was put up for the for the reclamation of theFerraraProvince, that began in the year 1566. The tower was both a dam to control the reflux of the River Po to the sea as well as a military guard post.
