Cremona The violin city maker
Many people know Cremona for the violin makers' tradition: Amati, Stradivari, Guarneri del Gesù while only few have appreciated its fascinating medieval City Hall Square with the wonderful Cathedral and the frescos dating back to the early 16th Century, but the top masterpiece is the cycle of Mary and Christ Passion inside the Cathedral, you can move on to the precious Caravaggio, Perugino and Campi brothers altar pieces.
Following our guided tour walking through the streets of Cremona you will be able to appreciate the contrast of colors: red for the bricks and light blue for the spring sky or guess the Torrazzo shadow in the autumn fog. You can reach the top of the 114-metre high Torrazzo, one of the highest bell towers of Europe, to admire the churches and the silver wake of the Po river. Stop lunch with ending in the special dessert as “the Torrone”. In the afternoon following the entering the workshops of a violin-maker in Cremona you will be surrounded by the natural resins and wood fragrances. Here you can see how violins, violas, cellos and double-basses for professional players have been made since the 16th century.
